Today Is The First-Ever National Cinema Day

Today is National Cinema Day and if you don’t know what this is let me share a little coolness with you all. This new national celebration is a creation by the folks at Cinemark who are encouraging cinemas across the country to take part in showcasing every film and every showing along with some additional discounts to put the bodies into the theaters once again. Sure we’ve had some blockbuster films being released since the pandemic times got a little “better” but its nothing like it used to be. Everyone’s pocket was hit during the pandemic and the surplus cash wasn’t always there to enjoy a film with the family. Let’s face it, that endeavor can be a daunting cost. What kind of a discount you might ask, well how does $3 sound to you? Yep. You can see any film at a participating cinema for $3 today.

This is quite a savings and I consider myself a little bit of a cinephile in the sense that I try to see all of the films that are in my general interest very early in their theatrical run but I’ve been doing this at the matinees since the time and cost factor were much better for me at this point in time. Having an idea like National Cinema Day will help generate a buzz and more interest in venturing out to the movies again. At the moment there are only a couple of films that I am interested in seeing and with our local Bay Ridge Brooklyn Alpine Cinema participating in National Cinema Day I will likely be catching something there. Every theatre is showing different films in addition to some of the currently running ones and at the Alpine we have the return of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” along with “The Invitation”, “Beast”, “Bullet Train”, “DC League of Super-Pets”, “Three Thousand Years of Longing”, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down”. Other discounts might be available as well but this will be on a theater by theater basis for sure. My traditional snack when at the movies is a medium Sprite soda and a large bag of popcorn.

My hopes are that this becomes a regular yearly event and I guess like the much discussed Free Comic Book Day, that it will be on the first Saturday of September. As I wrap this announcement up I wonder if you will be considering seeing a film on this holiday weekend and if you are, what film will you be seeing. Right now I am entertaining seeing “Bullet Train” since I didn’t see that one and it looked like fun. I saw “Spider-Man: No Way Home” when it was released and think that will be the most crowded of the films which I can do without right now. Maybe I will try for a second film and see that “DC League of Super-Pets” since I loved the trailers. Okay that’s all I have on this one so chime in below and share your own thoughts. See you next time, please stay safe out there.
