Greetings my friends, I’m taking a moment out of the day to let the interested know about another one of the social media platforms and services that is currently employed by our continually growing Ken Pierce Media outlet. This service is known as “Muck Rack” and before I get more into it, let’s learn a little bit about it from assorted resources.

What Is Muck Rack: Muck Rack is an American software company that provides a public relations management (PRM) platform. The platform provides a media database of journalists, podcasters, freelancers, and outlets, along with AI-powered journalist recommendations. (paraphrased from Wikipedia).
How KPM Learned Of It:Thanks to the time spent administering PiercingMetal, Piercing Ken AND the few websites where I had been posting before those even began, I’ve always kept up on what networks were out there or tried to at least. It was not too long ago when there was a specific trade show that I wanted to attend and they turned me down based on my not being found in the Muck Rack database that they used. Having never heard of the service before I looked it up and it seemed to be a pricy place for the industry to keep tabs on those media resources that pitch them on a regular basis. While I was mad to have missed out on a show that I was super interested in, I poked around and learned that a free profile was able to be created by journalists for inclusion in said database. I was intrigued and began to dig deeper into the whole thing.
Once I began assembling my free profile on paper and in my head, I decided to make it reflect the Ken Pierce Media branding over the PiercingMetal or Piercing Ken outlets. My rationale for this was based on my using this brand as our executive editorial branch and for over a year now every new social media network or resource that I sign up for only uses the KPM branding. Case in point, our TikTok, Mastodon and BlueSky accounts are only Ken Pierce Media despite such a limited vibe on most of those outside of the TikTok. Also, since every post gets filtered through Ken Pierce Media anyway no matter which website has the content that this made the most logical sense.
How KPM Utilizes Muck Rack: I’ll admit that outside of creating the free online profile for journalists, there isn’t really anything that I am using it for. This is essentially an entry in a database that others can find us on and learn a bit about our efforts and see some of the coverage that has been done. I will share that in the portfolio section I have lined out some of the larger events like Toy Fair, New York Comic Con, Anime NYC and more. Should the interested click on any of these portfolio options the link will open the website and show a rundown of that content. So essentially a complete rundown of New York Comic Con, Toy Fair etc. This should properly illustrate what gets done with the outlet and also amount to more Google traction. We do love Google traction. I’ve also listed a number of social media platforms that we regularly employ and while almost all of them reflect the KPM branding, there are a select few where I list PiercingMetal since there is much more going on in them.
Should I Use Muck Rack?: Since this is a free profile and the means to being found by potentially other new opportunities I will say “YES” to that question. This is my free editorial viewpoint because the landscape keeps on changing by the month and sometimes even by the week. In addition to bona fide major outlets, there are thousands and thousands of smaller ones to compete your game against. Let’s not forget the true Influencers as well as the charlatan ones who somehow convince reps that they are influential and yet never seem to have a spot of content. There are also reaction channels which I cannot fathom as being anything more than entertainment as opposed to relevant media. I view this as an “any port in a storm” mentality that helps you keep putting your name out there. Let’s face it, this isn’t sharing any super personal information and that stuff is out there anyway. I sure don’t mind opening up Google for a brand search and seeing so many items coming up in addition to this resource. This is also something cool as a link to share in your own pitch emails to reps. Going a few extra steps never hurts ones branding.
Wrapping up I hope that those who read through it all found it interesting enough and those who might have found the insight of value have already begun jotting down some notes to assemble a profile of their own. Free is good my friends and especially in this economy. Down below you will find the link to the Ken Pierce Media Muck Rack and I’ve also included a link to our Linktree which is another high recommendation for those in the same field as well. Keep pushing because if you don’t someone else will. Now back to work I go.
