The Announcement:
Download your old Facebook Live videos by May 22. We are sending you this email because you have previously broadcasted a Facebook Live video.

Facebook is rolling out changes to its storage policy for Facebook Live videos. Starting February 19, Facebook Live videos will be retained for 30 days by default on your Facebook Page or profile, during which you can replay, delete, or download the video. After 30 days, you will no longer be able to access your live broadcasts and they will automatically be removed from your profile or Page and deleted from our servers.

As part of this transition, we will be deleting all Facebook Live videos older than 30 days, and we want to make sure you have the opportunity to save your past Facebook Live videos. Any existing Live videos published before February 19 will be deleted from your Page or profile, but you can download them until May 22. Click here for more information on our download options.

Upcoming changes to how Live videos are stored –
Beginning February 19, 2025, Facebook Live videos will be kept on your Facebook Page or profile for 30 days after they’re published, during which you can share replays or clips as reels, delete, or download the videos. After 30 days, you’ll no longer be able to access your video, and it’ll be automatically removed from your Page or profile and deleted from Meta servers.

You’ll be notified via email and on Facebook when this change takes effect on your account. Any Live videos that were already published over 30 days from this notification will be deleted. Once you’re notified, you’ll have 90 days to download your Live videos or transfer them to cloud storage. If you need more time, you can postpone the deletion for 6 months. Note: You’ll only be able to postpone the deletion of your Live videos once. After 6 months, your past Live videos will be deleted.

Note: Live videos from memorialized accounts are not subject to this policy. Once an account is memorialized, the content the person shared remains on Facebook and is visible to the audience with whom it was shared.

There are multiple ways to save previously recorded Live videos:
1. Create a single file with all your Live videos that you can download to your device or transfer to cloud storage.
2. Download one or more Live videos from your Page or profile’s Activity Log. To download your Live videos, select Your Live videos, then choose a date range to see videos available to download.
3. Download an individual Live video from your profile, Page, or Meta Business Suite.

Note: You must have Facebook access with full control, or be the original broadcaster to download Live video files. Learn how to download Live videos.

KPM Thoughts: While I completely understand the problem that Facebook and Meta must now have with server space since literal millions of users are constantly uploading things I will say that this is a complete pain in the behind for a Content Creator such as myself. According to a quick check on my assorted accounts, I don’t have a whole lot of videos saved to my personal profile and most of them fall to being those “Year In Review” things that they no longer seem to do. I’ll need to save those for posterity and determine what I’d like to use them in if anything. There are a couple of dozen videos over on the Piercing Ken Page but I will stress that the biggest hurdle to address will be the clips on the PiercingMetal Page since there are hundreds and hundreds of them. I’ll be doing my best to start downloading these ASAP or as soon as time actually permits me to do it and I think that the best model is to download and then delete them right off of the page to make the task easier to keep pace with. I’m a data driven sort of guy so I will likely also create a spreadsheet to keep track and to know what file is what. Hopefully I will have this under control by their specified timeframe otherwise I will definitely need to try that postponement so I can finish up. Going forward I guess this is going to make any kind of engagement on Business Pages even harder because the video content is such an appealing thing that would often draw in attention many months or even years since it had been posted. I am not too sure how I want to use these videos once I have finished downloading them. I do have branded YouTube Channels, but I don’t want any copyright strikes since many things are live music that we wanted to share with you to help excite you about artists that we are covering on the website. The whole thing is a mess but again I can appreciate the fact that the servers are probably being pushed to their limits. All that being noted I should point out that Facebook has not been a fun place to share news about what I am up to on the assorted websites for a few years now but I must keep on using them because its “the thing we must do” for traction. If you’re already following PiercingMetal, Piercing Ken or this Ken Pierce Media Pages I thank you from the bottom of my creative heart and if you are not doing that yet you can rectify the issue by clicking the hyperlinked text as that will launch the respective pages. It’s quite hard to build the audience up on this network and if you join into them please start engaging with posts because otherwise you will never be made aware of updates. If they end up announcing a change to the Photo Storage Policy I am just going to delete the page since it will serve no real purpose anymore. Wrapping up I wonder what you out there in the readership think about this announcement and this very dramatic change. Please chime in down below in the comments section.

Addendum: A follow-up email specified that I had until June 21st to download any of the videos from the PiercingMetal Facebook Page which is a bit of a relief since I know I will fall behind on this task based on all the upcoming happenings on my agenda. Shameless plug is please give a “Follow” to those hyperlinked Pages as it will help move the needle upward on a now very difficult social media platform.
